This Cornishware Collection is the authentic blue and white banded dinnerware and service pieces which were originally crafted in England, dating back to the mid-Victorian years. Cornishware pieces are fired then coated with a white slip which is allowed to dry and then coated with the blue slip. The pieces are then mounted on a lathe and bands of blue slip are turned off to reveal the white body beneath and fired again. This detailed process gives the pieces the band texture they are known for which cannot be achieved by simply painting the stripes onto the pieces. Tradition has it that the original design came from a factory laborer who looked out upon the blue skies and white ocean waves in Cornwall and created the colors to match. Please note, Cornishware is no longer crafted in England, it is now manufactured overseas in China using the same style and design as the original English pieces.
