Purchasing Manager


The Purchasing Manager is responsible for the procurement of raw materials and packaging that meet or exceed the company standards in terms of quality, service, and cost. Maintains the highest degree of ethical conduct and integrity in all business interactions. Responsible for identifying needs, developing and or assisting in programs and policies to support the execution of the purchasing function.

Specific Responsibilities Include:
  • Manage the cost-effective procurement of raw materials and packaging consistent with company quality standards and production schedules
  • Negotiate contracts and policies for materials. Evaluate and monitor contracts for compliance to terms and conditions.
  • Review, evaluate and approve specifications for issuing and awarding bids to suppliers through RFQ process
  • Manage vendor relationships in terms of monitoring cost, product performance and other strategic importance factors to ensure that company needs are met
  • Actively source new suppliers in conjunction with Research and Development. Interview vendors and visit suppliers plants and distribution centers to evaluate products, quality and services
  • Identify and report on potential opportunities for cost savings strategies through on-going cost analysis
  • Regularly report to management on trends in prices past, current and future as well as reports on performance against plan, standard costs vs. actual, etc
  • Coordinate activities with appropriate departments to ensure effective procurement of materials to meet needs
  • Takes an active role in incorporating new technologies that will help to improve efficiencies in job workflow


Education, Experience, and Skills:
  • BA in business or related field or equivalent experience with knowledge of purchasing policies and procedures
  • 5+ years procurement and supply management experience - ISM certified preferred
  • Product knowledge for food industry regarding specifications, grades, costs and other key factors, preferred
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and negotiation skills, as well as computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
