The Research and Development Manager shall be innovative, self-motivated, team-oriented individual. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on manager that possesses the skills and fortitude to work in a fast paced environment. The R&D Manager will be responsible for designing and leading R&D processes and managing R&D staff and ensuring the smooth transfer of new know-how and technology to other groups or departments involved in innovation.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Responsible for development of new products based on interaction with sales and marketing
- Ensure all products are developed in accordance with company quality standards and regulatory requirements from concept to commercialization
- Identifies opportunities to improve existing processes or products to meet standards and budget requirements
- Interaction with internal departments and outside vendors as projects dictate
- Participates in all aspects of the product formula scale up process; development of production process, supervise plant trials, shelf life evaluation, and coordination of product data to QA and Production
- Oversees regulatory compliance when developing new product labels and any required label changes
- Directly supervises all R&D staff, organizes work flow, processes, procedures in accordance with organization policies and applicable laws
- Manage department budget
Additional Responsibilities Include:
- Perform other job duties as assigned
- Follow all company food safety and safety policies and procedures
- May be required to work in excess of 40 hours as business needs require
Education, Experience, and Skills:
- Four year BS degree, Masters a plus
- Five years plus experience in food manufacturing, minimum of 3 years supervisor experience
- Record of successful product development and product improvement
- Knowledge of GMPs, regulatory, labeling laws, HACCP
- Excellent people skills
- Self-directed, ability to work independently and as a team member
- Strong collaboration skills – ability to work well cross functionally
- Innovative thinker that can generate new ideas for product development and improvement
- Advanced project management and organizational skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and Genesis
