Cathy’s food writing career began on her celebrated food blog, Mrs. Wheelbarrow’s Kitchen. As an authority on the subject of food preservation, canning, charcuterie and cheese making, her readership grew and eventually gained the attention of NPR’s Morning Edition and a spotlight on NBC’s The Today Show when Al Roker recreated her Thanksgiving stuffing recipe. Now a full time food writer, Cathy regularly contributes articles on canning and preserving to the food sections of The New York Times, The Washington Post, Garden & Gun magazine and NPR. Her new book, Mrs. Wheelbarrow’s Practical Pantry, is due out in the fall of 2014 and will feature all aspects of food preservation including canning, smoking, brining, cheese making, fermenting and dehydrating.
