Holiday greeting cards are so lovely these days you may want to create a great
way to neatly display them. This board is
simple enough to
make with kids and can be used as a bulletin board for the family when the
holidays are over.
First cut a piece of plywood or homasote fiberboard
(available at most hardware stores) to the size you would like. Then choose a
piece of fabric with a seasonal print or bright color. You'll need a piece that
is about 3 inches wider than the board, all the way around. You may want to use
a piece of thin batting under the fabric but it is unnecessary. Using a staple
gun or hot glue gun on the back side, carefully attach the fabric, backside
down, to the board, folding it neatly over each edge. Pulling tightly and
attaching opposite sides first helps.
Next cut coordinating or
contrasting pieces of ribbon or seam binding long enough to be folded over the
board. Staple or glue the ribbons in a diagonal pattern going one way, then
using another color ribbon do the same going the other. (See photo.) You can
edge the board with more ribbon if you like.
Cards can be slid into the
ribbons, overlapping if need be. The board can be hung with a ribbon or leaned
up against the wall on top of a table or shelf. Enjoy looking at cards and
messages from family and friends each and every day of the season. |
