| We asked around the office and found as many ways to handle the
stressful days of the season as we have employees! No matter what your faith or
family traditions, this time of year brings with it expectations and pressures
even to the most organized of us. Here are some of our favorite tips on
handling the holidays and actually taking time to enjoy them. |
| Simplify |
 |
Shop on line, no crowds or lines, you can do it
when you have time and can even look for the perfect gift while in your
pajamas. |
 |
Buy lots of the same gift or make it a theme gift
for friends or co-workers. Select an ornament, or jar of jam and give everyone
at the office the same one. How easy is that? Or, for family, decide on
presents like books and make it a one stop shopping trip for everyone on your
list. |
 |
Use paper plates for holiday meals and don't worry
about making complicated recipes. (Our website has loads of ideas for
appetizers that use just a couple of ingredients and can be made in five
minutes.) |

|
 |
| Don't Overspend |
 |
It really is the truth that the thought is what counts,
especially for the adults on your list. Sharing time (after the holidays)
taking a parent or grandparent to lunch is as good a gift as any expensive
trinket. |
 |
For kids, the truth is best. Simply explain that there is a
limit to what parents and even Santa can do and stick to it. Limiting
expectations is the easiest way to a happy holiday. |
 |
Draw names for extended family, that way everyone can buy
something special for just one person. This is a great activity for after the
Thanksgiving meal. |
|
 |
| Take Time for Yourself |
 |
There is a lot to do this time of year. Take a break and go for
a long walk or a pedicure and treat yourself to a little pampering. You'll be
refreshed and less stressed in minutes. |
 |
Get to bed early, lots of sleep is important at this time of
year to keep healthy and happy. |
|
 |
| Remember the Reason for the Season |
 |
Do something useful for your community. Visit people at the
nursing home or help serve a meal at a homeless shelter. |
 |
Take kids shopping for a toy to give to a local drive and help
them deliver the presents to the collection site. |
 |
Sing carols. Not only does it make you feel better, but it
makes everyone around you happier too. |
 |
Generously offer to do a loved one's dreaded errand. |
|
 |
Remember
When you are creative with your gifts and expressions of thanks,
people will appreciate your real, heartfelt sentiments of the holidays and
you'll feel terrific. |
