Napkin Folding
If you're hosting a holiday party this year, why not add a little pizzazz to the table with a few fancy napkin folds. By folding your napkins in a creative way, you add another dimension to your place settings and the appearance of your party table.

The first thing to consider when you begin napkin folding is the purpose for your creation. Do you want to fold the napkin so it is merely a decoration that sits on the table, or do you want your napkins to be folded in such a way that they become a decorative holder for your silverware? We've chosen a few options to show you how to do both.

First of all, select a napkin that will work well for each method. Heavy linen napkins work best when creating looks that need a crisp edge. They will hold a fold and a crease, if needed. To help your linen or cloth napkins fold easier, you can also starch them lightly with spray starch.

You can also try to use two different colors of linens on the table. This is great if you are throwing a holiday party, using red, white and green coordinating linens adds a fun touch to the setting. Don't feel you have to purchase new napkins, pull out what you may have tucked away … jeweled colors, white, silver or gold work really well for the season.

The Pocket Fold
If you want to make a pocket out of your napkin to hold silverware, the pocket fold is ideal for your place setting. Follow these steps:
arrow Spread the napkin out on the table in front of you.
arrow Fold the napkin in half one time so the fold is at the bottom of the napkin. You should have a rectangle shape now.
arrow Fold one side of the napkin over so it is now in quarters.
arrow Take two corners and fold them back at an angle. Roll them underneath so the fold is approximately 2 inches wide.
arrow Fold the remaining corners underneath the napkin, but leave about two inches above the area that you folded first. You will now have two pointed sides.
arrow Finally, fold the two pointed sides into the back of the napkin. This will then form the finished fold.

The Pyramid Fold
The pyramid fold will create a triangular figure out of your napkin that resembles a pyramid. Follow these steps:
arrow Lay the napkin out in front of you. It should be a square napkin instead of a rectangular one for best results.
arrow Fold the napkin in half in such a way that it forms a triangle. The tip of the triangle should be away from you and the fold should be closest to you.
arrow Next, fold the two side corners so they meet the top corner.
arrow Turn the napkin over.
arrow Fold it in half again.
arrow Pick up the center point and allow it to stand on its base.
