In times of unease I always find it therapeutic to create. Creating looks different for everyone. Whether it be painting, drawing, cooking, playing an instrument or writing, every outlet becomes a release.

Since I’ve found myself cooking a lot more while at home, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to create a DIY recipe journal for the new recipes I’m whipping up. This is also a fun and easy project to do with the kids. It’s a great chance to be playful and make something together!

What you’ll need:

  • A plain journal or notebook
  • Stamps
  • Stamp pad
  • Glue stick
  • Yarn and/or other embellishments
  • Magazine cutouts
  • Scissors
  • Colored pencils, markers, crayons and pens

Step 1: Start be deciding on the placement of your magazine cutouts. I chose photos that were food-centric but also eye-catching and colorful. Once you like the placement, glue them down to the cover of your journal.

Step 2: Next, add text. I used stamps to spell out “recipe journal”, but you can get creative with how and what you write.

Step 3: Add your embellishments! I decided to sew on a swirl of yarn to give it some texture and dimension. Fabric scraps, buttons and ribbon would also work wonderfully here.

Step 4: After adhering the embellishments, I went in and added some doodles with pens and crayons. Any little designs or added color will bring your unique personality to the finished journal.

Step 5: Get cooking and add your most recent recipe to your finished journal!

This simple project brought some much needed joy to my day and makes me smile when I see it in my kitchen. I hope you fill yours to the brim with kitchen experiments, well-loved recipes and family favorites!
