Giving Tuesday: Causes We Care About

Here at Stonewall Kitchen, we know it feels good to give back. When we got our start at the farmers’ market in 1991, the local community embraced our business and gathered around us in support. Today, we’re so fortunate to be in a position where we can give back to the people, places, and the causes we care about.

This Giving Tuesday, we’re teaming up with our friends at Food 4 Farmers, an organization that works to cultivate food security for coffee-farming families and communities in Latin America. A tradition we are carrying on from when Vermont Coffee Company joined our family.

Along with our annual $5,000 donation, this year we’re proud and excited to be highlighting our partnership with Food 4 Farmers this Giving Tuesday by sharing their stories, raising money, and driving awareness. As the year starts to come to a close, we’re also taking this time to reflect on some of our favorite causes that we love supporting throughout the year.

Food Insecurity

As a leading specialty food brand, one of our core values is that no one should face hunger, which is why we partner with local food banks and organizations. The New Hampshire Food Bank, Good Shepherd Food Bank of Maine, and Food 4 Farmers offer solutions for families and communities experience food insecurity, inherently working towards stronger and healthier communities.

Throughout the year and as part of our Vermont Coffee Company “Friend Philosophy,” 5% of revenue from each 16oz bag of our Friend Blend Whole Bean Coffee sold is donated to Food 4 Farmers, along with donating up to 4,000 pounds of coffee to help fuel local charities. This year, 5% of the revenue generated from our 32oz Friend Blend allowed us to donate $19,000 to the Vermont Foodbank. Read more here.

LGBTQ+

A cause near and dear to our hearts, we’re committed to supporting the LGBTQ+ community. This is why we give to GLAAD, The Trevor Project, and OUT Maine throughout the year. These organizations are dedicated to actionable allyship, change, and offer everything from educational materials to appointments with trained counselors. Though our rainbow love shines all year round, we love to show our support throughout Pride Month and beyond with rainbow-themed recipes and donations for grant money.

Cancer

We believe that supporting those going through a health diagnosis is crucial. In an effort to alleviate the many complications that come during such a difficult time we give to several cancer foundations throughout the year; Maine Cancer Foundation, Breast Cancer Alliance, American Heart Association, and Camp Sunshine.

Our most recent partnership was with Breast Cancer Alliance, during the month of October, 25% of proceeds from select “pink” items were donated to Breast Cancer Alliance in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, while also sharing breast cancer survivors’ testimonials and “going pink” for the month of October.

Families in Crisis

From homelessness to domestic violence, we’re dedicated in aiding and donating to organizations that provide empowerment and resources to families experiencing crisis. These action-led groups include Angel Flight North East, Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center: Domestic Violence, and York County Shelter Program.

Local Community

Giving back within our own community is very important to us, by supporting our friends at Seacoast Educational Endowment Dover, York Community Service Association and Vermont Parks Forever through donations. These organizations have done everything from providing grants for innovative classroom initiatives to protecting state parks, all working towards making New England a great place to live.

Our entire Stonewall Kitchen community and employees love to come together for the Giving Tree, a program where employees can grab a tag and complete a wish. Every December, anyone that can contributes to supporting families in our local communities – whether it’s providing essential items or making Christmas mornings a little extra special with gifts.

Stonewall Kitchen

In 1991, Stonewall Kitchen started with a small table at the local farmers’ market, displaying a few dozen items that we’d finished hand-labeling only hours before. Today, we’re proud to be one of the most awarded specialty food brands in the country, boasting a line that includes jams, mustards, baking mixes and more! From our headquarters in York, Maine, we cook up new, exciting ideas and products while never wavering from our commitment to quality.
