2 teaspoons granulated sugar, for topping, optional
Directions
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, whole wheat flour, sugar, salt and baking powder
In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, oil, caramel sauce and milk. Pour this mixture over the dry ingredients and mix to combine. Turn out onto a clean surface and knead until a soft dough is formed. Form into a disc, wrap with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least one hour.
Preheat oven to 300°F.
Divide the dough in half and roll out until it is about 1/8th inch thick. Trim the edges with a sharp knife to create a rectangle. Place rectangle on a parchment lined baking sheet and continue with remaining dough until all dough is used.
Brush with milk and sprinkle with salt and sugar. Bake for 10 minutes.
Remove from oven and, with a pizza cutter, slice into approximately 2” x 3” rectangles. Do not separate the pieces. Place back in oven for an additional 18 minutes.
Turn oven off, open door and let sit for 15-20 minutes to finish crisping. Serve immediately or store in an air-tight container for later use.
