Ingredients

  • 2-¾ cups all purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast (1 packet)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup whole milk, heated to 115°F
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg, room temperature
  • 5 Tablespoons unsalted butter, softened and divided
  • ⅓ cup dark brown sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon cinnamon
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1 cup Confectioner's sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup Strawberry Jam

Directions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Pour in the milk, melted butter, and the egg, and stir with a rubber spatula until the dough comes together.
  2. Lightly dust your work surface with flour and knead the dough until it is smooth and elastic, about five minutes. The dough will be tacky, but shouldn't stick to the counter or your hands. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover loosely, and let the dough rest for twenty minutes.
  3. While the dough is resting, make the filling. In a small bowl, combine the 3 Tablespoons of the softened butter with brown sugar and cinnamon until smooth.
  4. After 20 minutes, transfer the dough to a well-floured surface and roll out to a 14x9-inch rectangle. Spread the filling over the dough, leaving about an inch margin uncovered at the top. Spread a thin layer of the Strawberry Jam on top of the filling. Roll the dough snugly into a log and cut into 1-inch sections with a serrated knife. You should get 10-12 cinnamon rolls. Place the cinnamon rolls into a greased 9x13-inch baking pan or a 12-inch round cake pan. Cover with plastic wrap and let them rise until doubled in size, about 60 minutes depending on conditions.
  5. While the cinnamon rolls bake, make the frosting. In a medium mixing bowl, combine 2 Tablespoons of butter with cream cheese, Confectioner's sugar and vanilla extract with a whisk. Mix until smooth.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Remove the plastic and bake the cinnamon rolls for 20 minutes, until just slightly golden brown. Let them cool for 5-10 minutes before frosting.
